Our Independence Day

I know this is a bit late, but HAPPY 4th of JULY!!!  We arrived home from our mountain trip just in time to go to bed and wake up for another FUN filled day!  I love the 4th and for the past 15 years we've been celebrating it in our own backyard.  Our little community started a July 4th tradition back in the late 90's that includes a Pancake Breakfast at our church to benefit our Youth Programs, a Parade down 2 of our main roads, music, rides, food, a street dance and fun for the whole family including an awesome fireworks show to end the day.  From our house we can see the fireworks really good, so we always have family and friends over for homemade ice cream and fireworks.  It is truely one of my favorite times of the year!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!

Mountain Vacation

The weekend before July 4th Daniel, myself, and the girls headed to Blowing Rock for a few days.  My great aunt has had a house there for many years and has just sold it.  We wanted to enjoy it one more time before it changed hands.  We left on Thursday June 30th around 4:30pm and while we were in route I40 was very backed up, come to find out a part of it had been closed down because of a horrible accident near Durham/Chapel Hill.  It took us 7 1/2 hours to get there when it usually only takes about 3 1/2-4 hours.  John Mac stayed with all his wonderful grandparents and after that long ride I was glad.  The girls did great!  On Friday we got up and went to Tweetsie Railroad for the day and then back to the house to a little rest.  For dinner we went to Twigs and then to see the production of Horn in the West, it was really good.  On Saturday we went to Mystery Hill, Gem Mining, Downtown Boone during the day and Downtown Blowing Rock in the evening.  I even got a nice nap!  On Sunday we went out to eat breakfast and then headed home to see our baby boy.  We also love Bowling Rock Park, The Moses Cone House, and Grandfather Mountain, but they will have to wait until next our next trip!  I LOVE the Mountains!!!
