Helping Out Where We Can

This week has been filled with helping out a few causes that we believe in!
Here's what we've been doing....

On Wednesday night Daniel, my brother Denton, and I went to a CCA Banquet.  CCA stands for Coastal Conservation Association.  We have been donating to them for several years and really enjoy going to the banquets every year.  They have great silent auction, live auction, and raffle items.  Of course the food is great too.  I forgot my camera that night, so no pictures.  My brother and I grew up spending lots of time at the beach and we loved going fishing on the deep blue sea.  This is our way of helping out something we love.
CCA Mission Statement
The stated purpose of CCA is to advise and educate the public on conservation of marine resources. The objective of CCA is to conserve, promote and enhance the present and future availability of these coastal resources for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public.

This week Edi begins her fundraising for the American Heart Association through Jump Rope for Heart.  This is a program that her school participates in and she calls her family and friends every year asking for donations.  She has begun calling and is raising some money.  She has been the top fundraiser for Jump Rope for Heart in her school since Kindergarten.  Her goal is to be the top seller all 6 years of elementary school.  We have a genetic heart condition that runs in our family called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.  I suffer from the condition and take medication and have had open heart surgery and have a pacemaker/defibrillator.  Both of my girls have been genetically tested and are not affected, which we are very thankful for.  Heart disease is the # 1 killer among women.

Last night the Rotary Club in our area hosted a meal packaging event for Stop Hunger Now.  This is a wonderful organization and packaging the meals is lots of fun and the experience is very educational.  Check out the link to them and find a packaging event near you.  We got there at 6pm last night and were done packaging 22,000 meals before 8:30pm.  Edi went with me and so did our friend Thomas.  They had a great time and I quized them on the way home about what they learned.  The meals are sent around the world to help those less fortunate.  This is our second time packaging meals and I look forward to doing it again.
